Race Your Bike

May 26th, 2012 · No Comments · State Fair Crit

Here at Cat 6, we have solidified our position on bike racing; we’re for it.  It doesn’t matter whether you are fast, slow, fat, skinny, male, female, democrat or republican. You can race a bike!  Look at other sports. In golf, if you have a handicap, you can play in tournaments, even if you spend more time in the woods than Jeremiah Johnson. Runners get to line up in back of Olympic champions even if a 30-minute 5k is a personal best. Name the sport and all levels get to compete. OK, maybe not football and cage fighting, but that would be stupid anyway. You get the  point. Bike racing is fun, it’s hard and it will make you feel like a kid, unless you are a kid, in which case you will feel all grown up.

Bike riding is one of the most popular recreational events in the U.S. with millions of participants, yet only 30,000 people have a racing license.  Why not you? How about your kids or your parents?  If a criterium looks daunting, try a gran fondo or a mountain bike race where nobody will care how fast you are.

A great way to get those racing juices flowing is to attend a race, such as the Category 6 Racing Oddities & Freaks criterium series at the state fairgrounds on June 5, 12, 19 and 26th.  Starting at 5:15 each evening, settle in for a bunch of exciting racing surrounded by fun people and great food.  This year, Giggles Campfire Grill will be serving up their magnificent state fair specialties. Click on the “State Fair Affair 2012″ button on the top of this page to find out more, and join us at the fairgrounds!
